Personal Biography

I live in Grandville and am an active member of First Jenison Christian Reformed Church.  I have served as a member of our church’s education committee for many years and often play my baritone horn in church services, hymn sings, and special events.  My advice to parents is to take an active role in your child’s education and participate in his or her development – spiritually, mentally, and physically.  We must never forget that whatever happens in life, God is in control.  Everything I do as a Christian educator points to Colossians 3:23  Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”

Professional Biography

In 1974, I graduated from Calvin College with a BA in secondary education and mathematics major.  I received my Master’s degree from Western Michigan University in 1978, graduating with honors.  This is my 35th year of teaching at ACS.  Three times I have been selected by high school seniors who have nominated me in Who’s who Among America’s Teachers for making a difference in their lives.  A highlight of my teaching career was leading sectionals at the Michigan Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) and at the Christian Schools International (CSI).  It is my hope and prayer that God will continue to work through me to help my students develop their God-given talents.

Philosophy Biography

What advice would I give to my students?  Use the talents God has given you.  You are not working first of all for yourself, your parents, or teachers, but for God.

His promise:  “Be faithful and I will give you the crown of righteousness.”
