Personal Biography

My husband Joel and I live in Holland, MI.  We have been married for 5 years, and we spent the last 4 years living and teaching in southern California.  He is currently teaching math to sixth and eighth graders at Holland Christian’s South Shore Middle School.  I grew up in Holland, MI, where I had the privilege of attending Holland Christian School.  In my spare time, I enjoy reading, playing sports, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.

Professional Biography

In 2003, I graduated from Calvin College with a B.A. in elementary education and special education. After student teaching in a first grade classroom, I was offered a job to teach in a K-12 resource room at Calvin Christian School in Escondido, CA.   I enjoyed the small group setting and the focus on individualizing instruction.  I feel so blessed to have a classroom of first graders to carry over this individualizing and also to share my love of reading!

Philosophy Biography

God’s creativity is so evident in a classroom of students – the diversity is endless.  As a teacher, it is my goal to meet the needs of my students in order to facilitate learning and spiritual growth.  Each student has different strengths and weaknesses, and we strive to discover those and use the strengths to build up the areas of difficulty.  All students can be successful in learning more about God and his world
